Bingo Night

Join us for a PTA meeting at 5pm in the library on January 18th before Bingo Night! All are welcome.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

We are looking for volunteers to sit on the Nominating Committee this spring to help choose next years PTA leaders. This is not a very time consuming process but you will need to schedule time to work with the other two committee members.

The Bylaws read as follows with my notes in parenthesis:

A. Each member of the nominating committee must be a member of this local PTA/PTSA.

B. The nominating committee shall consist of three (3) members who shall be elected by the members of this local PTA/PTSA at their regular general membership meeting at least two (2) months prior to the election of officers. The committee shall elect its own chairman.

C. The nominating committee shall nominate an eligible person for each office to be filled and report its nominees to the members at a regular general meeting. At the general membership election meeting, additional nominations may be made from the floor.

D. Only those persons who have signified their consent to serve, if elected, shall be nominated for or elected to such office.

If you are interested in serving on the committee or filling an open PTA position please contact Leala Cochran via e-mail at LealaCochran@gmail.com.

You should see "community rewards" and then the organization name and number should be visible. If you can see that, then you are good to go. If you can't see that, then you are not enrolled.
For quarter 4, 2016/2017, 68 households raised $645!! Thank you for all of your support!

Advocacy Minute:
Statewide Family Engagement Centers
Join advocates across the country in supporting statewide family engagement centers by calling your representative. After 7 years of inaction, Congress is currently considering an amendment to fund Statewide Family Engagement Centers. This bipartisan amendment would provide $10 million in critical resources for states and school districts to engage parents and families in their children's education. The best way to make your voice heard is to call your Representative TODAY- it takes just a minute and will make a big impact.

JOIN GRAFTON BETHEL PTA ONLINE

https://member.pta.org/Pilot-Home/Individual-Join

Why join the PTA?
Your membership helps our school have a voice! The more memberships the bigger impact and higher chance our voices can be heard not just in the school but in the state of Virginia and the National PTA. Also, when you join you are helping support students, teachers, school functions, and school grounds. It takes a village to give the best to our kids. It keeps you informed with what is going on in and around the school and honestly we couldn't do the things we do without you. You will also receive great discounts.
It DOESN'T mean you HAVE to volunteer or you have to show up to our meetings. Yes, we would love to have you and get to know you, but we understand how busy life is. Come when and if you can. You are always welcome to join us. We love new ideas and are always looking for ways to improve.

How long do memberships last? When you pay the $6 per member it is valid until the beginning of the next school year. You have to renew your memberships every year. We are hoping to make the process easier by next year.

Who can join?
We have parents, grandparents, other family members, friends, students, and business owners join. Basically, anyone who wants to support GBES and student.

Thank you to everyone who has already joined or renewed your memberships!
CONGRATULATIONS to our Back to School night Membership Raffle winners!
Rachel Welch, Tiffany Beatley, and Casey Quinley
